Music Video First Draft

First Draft

This video shows the first set of editing I have done with my footage. I still have more footage to shoot however, this draft gives me an idea of what my video will look like. I've tried to match the edits to the beat of the song. The song is very fast and upbeat and the video needs to match the pace otherwise it would be an awkward video to watch. For example, in my video there is

Ancillary Texts- #2

Magazine Advert

This image is also another draft of my magazine advert. Once again I have used an image i found on the internet and merged it with my image. I like the concept of creating the illusion of Amelia performing to an audience. The purpose of the ad is to promote Amelia's upcoming tour and the image shows Amelia 'performing'. Which in itself is promoting the tour without the text.

The original image is a long shot showing Amelia 'playing' the guitar. She is sat on an amplifier with her legs are crossed and looking down implying that Amelia is very comfortable when performing. Although her hair, makeup and costume would suggest otherwise, Amelia looks very casual in terms of her body language. She looks very natural.

The second image shows the original after I edited it. I used a an image off the internet and merged the two. I particularly like this image because of the 'pink smoke'. The pink has girly and feminine connotations and also has stereotypical representations of a female pop artist.
The crowd have their hands in the air, applauding Amelia which indicates to the audience that Amelia is an artist worth seeing live.

Ancillary Texts- #1

Magazine Advert

Instead of a magazine ad for the album release, I have chosen to do an advert for an upcoming tour. The following images show the before and after pictures of my first draft of the magazine ad.

The first image is a mid shot of Amelia which shows her wearing an all black ensemble. Her make up is heavily done and her hair is messy and curled, all of which represent the pop rock genre. I used all of the lights which are in the greenroom so the brightness and contrast are of good quality however, I can also adjust the brightness and contrast in photoshop. Although a convention of all adverts is for the model to have a direct address with the audience, I have chosen an image where Amelia is looking down which breaks the convention of all ads having a direct address. The song is called Heart Attack which suggests that Amelia is heartbroken and hasn't gained the confidence again to look up and pose.

The second image shows my first draft of the magazine ad. Since the ad is for a tour, I wanted to create the illusion that Amelia was performing to an audience. I used an image of an audience which I found on the internet and merged the image with the original image. I chose the found image because of the silhouette of the audience. By merging the two images together it creates an illusion that the audience are applauding Amelia whilst she is on stage.

The image looks like it has been taken at a 'rave' or a dance concert. The image represents dance/ clubland music rather than pop rock. I will not be using this image of the audience in my final draft because it of its misrepresentation of genre.

Shooting Day

Here are some of the images that were shot when during the ancillary text photo shoot.

Album Cover Drafts

Ancillary Text Drafts

The image below shows one of my drafts for the album cover. The cover itself is fairly simple however the aesthetic is more complex. I have used an image I found on the internet and merged it with original image. I particularly like this image and the effects used because I believe it represents the pop-rock genre fairly well. For example, the use of the muted tones such as mauve, purple and dusky pinks connote the softness of the pop genre yet infused together with the edgy-ness of the rock genre.

The guitar plays a significant role in the cover as it alludes Amelia playing to a live audience. The live audience connotes Amelia's realness and authenticity- she is signing "live" which most pop artists are not capable of. She is looking down while she strums the guitar which represents her devotion and passion towards her music. For example, she is focusing on the guitar and concentrating on what song she is playing rather than looking directly at the audience and embracing their attention.

I chose to simply go with "Amelia" at the bottom left as i felt the image itself was very busy and complex. I found the font on "Dafont.com" and I particularly liked because it was something I've never came across. The style of the font is quite alternative and quirky, something which I want Amelia's image to be. Although Amelia is another pop star, I want her to stand out from the rest and I think the font represents her uniqueness.

The album is self-titled, a convention which most artists tend to follow. As Amelia is a new artist, I decided upon the self-titled album as it offers the opportunity for Amelia to gain popularity. A lot of promotion goes into an album release, and the name "Amelia" will gain a lot of exposure especially if the artist and the album are the same.

Itunes

The second image shows how the cover would appear on Itunes. Since web 2.0 everything has become digital, even the consumption of music. Online music stores such as Itunes are the dominating retailers in the music idustry. And since Itunes happens to be one of the more popular stores, I've chosen to show distribute the album through Itunes.

Filming Day 2- 10th Feb '14

Filming in the... Theatre!

Amelia and I filmed in the theatre, this evening. The concept of this scene/shoot was to film the "live performance" for example, the illusion that Amelia is in concert.

Mise- En- Scene

  • Location- Theatre,
  • Lighting- dark, red spotlights
  • Costume- all black, cropped bustier, leather mini skirt, sheer kimono, strapped heels
  • Hair & Makeup- big curly hair, heavy eye make up, red lipstick
Cinematograpgy
  • Long shots, close ups, mid shots
  • Pans, zooms, tilts
Outcome
Overall this shoot was very successful. The mise en scene was excellent! Costume, hair &make up looked great and worked really well with the location.

I was more confident in using the camera and improved the cinematography compared to the first shoot. There was a lot of space which made movements like the pan more easier.

Amelia's performance also improved from the first shot. She was confident and brought real emotion into her performance. Amelia was also moving more and really let the music consume her.

The red spotlight reflected on Amelia's hair which brings a great aesthetic to the video. The overall performance looked very and professional  "real".

Feedback from this shoot was positive too. For my first shoot, my teacher pointed out that there was no movement, not from Amelia and not from the camera. However, for this shoot my teacher insisted I shoot more in the theatre.
